How much can you pay into a pension?

The amount you can contribute — and claim income tax relief on — rises with your age, up to a set percentage of your earnings. On top of the relief going in, your fund grows tax-free, which is why starting early makes such a difference.

Pension calculator FAQs

How much can I pay into a pension in Ireland?

You can claim income tax relief on contributions up to an age-related percentage of your earnings — from 15% under 30 to 40% at 60 and over — based on earnings of up to €115,000 a year. You can pay in more, but only that portion gets relief.

How is my pension contribution calculated?

It’s based on your age, your earnings and the percentage limit for your age band. The calculator estimates the maximum tax-relieved amount and projects the potential fund using standard growth and charge assumptions.

How much tax relief will I get?

Relief is given at your marginal rate — 20% or 40%. For a 40% taxpayer, €100 in a pension can cost as little as €60 after relief.

Are the calculator figures guaranteed?

No — they’re indicative and based on assumptions (4% growth, 95% allocation, 1.25% charge). Your actual result depends on the plan, provider and fund. We confirm real figures with you.

Can I include employer contributions?

Employer contributions to a company or executive pension are generally on top of your personal age-related limits. We’ll factor these in when we build your plan.
