Where’s My P60? It’s Now the Employment Detail Summary (Ireland)

by Debbie Cheevers | Jan 28, 2020

Looking for your P60? You won’t find one — the P60 no longer exists in Ireland. Since 2019 it has been replaced by the Employment Detail Summary, which you get yourself online from Revenue. Here’s what changed, what the new document shows, and how to download yours in a couple of minutes.

What happened to the P60?

As part of a modernisation of the PAYE system, Revenue moved employers to real-time reporting of pay and deductions. That change did away with the old paper forms: the P45, the P35 and the P60. From 2019 onwards, employers no longer issue a P60. If you’re looking for an end-of-year record of your pay and tax, the document you now need is the Employment Detail Summary.

What is the Employment Detail Summary?

The Employment Detail Summary (often shortened to EDS) is the direct replacement for the P60. For each tax year it sets out:

  • Your total pay from each employment
  • The income tax deducted
  • The USC (Universal Social Charge) deducted
  • The PRSI deducted
  • Any Local Property Tax taken from your pay, if you chose that option

In other words, it’s the same information the old P60 gave you — you just access it yourself online rather than waiting for your employer to hand you a paper form.

How to get your Employment Detail Summary

You download it through Revenue’s myAccount service. If you haven’t used myAccount before, you’ll need to register first (you’ll need your PPS number and a few personal details). Once you’re logged in:

  • Go to the PAYE Services section and select “Review your tax” or “View your Employment Detail Summary”.
  • Choose the tax year you need.
  • Select “Create EDS”, then “Create Document” to generate a PDF you can save or print.

No online access? If you’re exempt from using Revenue’s online services, you can phone or write to your local Revenue office and ask for your Employment Detail Summary to be posted to you.

What can you use it for?

You use the Employment Detail Summary in exactly the same way you used to use the P60 — most often as proof of income. Common examples include:

  • Supporting a mortgage application
  • Applying for a loan or renting a property
  • Checking that the right tax was deducted during the year
  • Claiming a tax refund or completing an end-of-year review

What if the figures look wrong?

Because pay and deductions are now reported in real time, the figures on your Employment Detail Summary come straight from what your employer submitted to Revenue. If something looks off — pay that doesn’t match your payslips, or tax credits that don’t look right — it’s worth checking. Start with your employer’s payroll, and review your tax credit certificate in myAccount. If you’re still unsure, we’re happy to take a look and help you understand whether you’ve paid the right amount of tax.

P60 questions people still ask

Do I still get a P60 in Ireland?

No. P60s were abolished from 2019 as part of PAYE modernisation, so your employer no longer issues one. The end-of-year record you need is now the Employment Detail Summary, which you access yourself through Revenue’s myAccount.

Where do I get my P60 now?

You download its replacement — the Employment Detail Summary — from Revenue’s myAccount, under PAYE Services. Choose the tax year, select “Create EDS”, then “Create Document” to save it as a PDF.

Is the Employment Detail Summary the same as a P60?

Effectively, yes. It shows the same information the old P60 did — your total pay and the income tax, USC and PRSI deducted for the year — just in an online document you get yourself.

Can I still use it as proof of income?

Yes. You can use the Employment Detail Summary in exactly the same way as a P60, for example as proof of income for a mortgage or loan application.

Get a second set of eyes on your tax

Most people never check whether they’ve claimed all the tax credits and reliefs they’re entitled to — and over a few years that can add up. If you’d like a clear, jargon-free review of your income tax position, or help planning around it, we’re here to help.
